4.6 million orphans live in Pakistan, according to recent reports. The Lahore Kinship Project rescues desperate, parentless children and transforms their lives. Lahore’s most recent rescue exemplifies how it is empowered by its generous and dedicated Home Sponsors to tackle this orphan crisis one child at a time.
Suraj was 4 when he lost his parents and an uncle took him in. His uncle lived alone in poverty, so Suraj spent every day cooking and cleaning for him. As he grew up, he did well in school. But only because kind neighbors provided old books and used uniforms. Otherwise, Suraj dug through trash every night to find food. And the little money he made carrying luggage and shining shoes at city hotels went to his uncle.
Late last year, Suraj, now 12 years old, met Pastor Emmanuel from the Lahore Kinship Project by chance. Pastor Emmanuel heard his whole story and brought him to the Lahore Kinship Project.

Today, Suraj excels in his 5th grade classes, enjoys daily prayer and soccer, and says he is “very happy with my life and I [aim] to become a doctor.”
