Through Kinship United, generous contributors impact vulnerable individuals and families, offering them hope and stability in times of crisis. The story of Akua, a resilient widow from Unity State, South Sudan, exemplifies the tragic histories many of the people we serve share and how important community is in getting them through.
Together with her husband, Akua raised their children and served those in their community in South Sudan. However, her life took a tragic turn when her husband was killed during intercommunal violence, leaving Akua to care for their children alone.
Trying to Survive
The escalating conflict in South Sudan in 2017 forced Akua and her children to flee their home and seek refuge in Uganda. This period was marked by profound hardship. Despite her unwavering faith and constant prayers for her children's health, the harsh living conditions made it difficult to access essential resources like food, clean water, and healthcare. Tragically, her children succumbed to illness, leaving Akua heartbroken and alone.
Yet, even in the face of such immense loss, Akua's spirit remained unbroken. She found solace in her faith and her community. And she continued to serve others with compassion and dedication. Today, Akua lives within the community of the Buloba Kinship Project, where she receives support through our feeding program thanks to generous supporters.
