Tom’s Triumph: A Geta Kinship Project Miracle Story

Written by Elizabeth, our field team member in Kenya.

Once upon a time in a small village nestled amongst the rolling hills of Kenya, there lived a boy named Tom Nandasaba. He was a total orphan with no one to call family and no place to call home. His life was filled with hardship, for he had suffered at the hands of his cruel uncle and aunties before a ray of hope dawned upon his life.

Boy from Kenya smilingOne fateful day, a kind-hearted Good Samaritan took Tom under their wing and brought him to the Geta Kinship Project, a place that would forever change the course of his destiny.

Life at Geta was a transformation for Tom. The love and care he has received from the staff and other children filled the void that had haunted his young heart. He began to believe in the possibility of a brighter future, one he had never dared to dream of before.

But life had more challenges in store for Tom.

In 2017, a tragic road accident nearly claimed his life. He spent two weeks in the intensive care unit and two long months in the hospital fighting for survival. It was a dark and trying time for everyone who cared for him.

However, a miracle happened – after a month in the hospital, Tom, who had previously stuttered, started to speak fluently, a testament to the strength that lay within him.

Although his walking remained affected by the accident, his spirit was unbroken. Tom's unwavering determination led him to regain his voice and his hope. With the support and love of the Geta Kinship community, he blossomed into a young boy with dreams and aspirations.

Tom's journey was nothing short of extraordinary.

A boy who had never set foot in a classroom soon found himself on the path to education. He is preparing to enter grade 8, with aspirations of becoming a doctor in the future, a testament to his unyielding spirit.

But Tom's dreams don’t stop there.

He desires to give back and be one of the supporters of Geta, to be a pillar of strength for other children who, like him, once knew the pangs of hopelessness. He is filled with gratitude for the dear friends and supporters who have endlessly offered him a chance at life.

With a heart full of faith and love, Tom cherished his newfound hope and embraced God with open arms. He also harbors a deep desire to become a great singer, to share his story and inspire others through his melodious voice.

In Tom's remarkable journey, a boy who once had no hope now radiates hope and love. His life is a testament to the power of resilience, the kindness of strangers, and the strength of the human spirit.

Thanks to the unwavering support of our dear friends, Tom's story has become a shining example of what can be achieved with love, determination, and faith.

Blessings, our dear friends, and lots of love.
