Who Irene Used to Be
Years ago, Irene arrived as a quiet, frightened girl from Buloba Village.
Her father had disappeared. Her mother, sick with HIV, was doing everything she could to hold on.
After her mother sadly passed away, Irene lived with her grandmother, often going to bed hungry, often wondering if anyone in the world knew her story.
But God has a way of sending the right people at the right time.
She Found More than a Home
A kind woman named Margaret Kisakye brought Irene to the Kireka Kinship Family, a family formed by people who believe every child deserves dignity, safety, and a chance to dream.
With the family, Irene found more than food or shelter.
She found identity. She found belonging. She found a community that believed her life could shine.
And because someone believed in her, Irene’s voice, once quiet, began to rise.
She sang. She studied. She healed. She grew.
From Rescued Child to Rising Leader
At sixteen, Irene is not just a survivor. She is a storyteller. A mentor. A young woman who has started giving back what she once received.
“I used to be the one receiving,” she says, “but today, I get to give.”
