Embracing True Religion: Bringing Relief to Orphans & Widows

James 1:27 calls us to take action and embody true religion by helping those who are often overlooked and marginalized – orphans and widows who’ve been left alone to navigate some of life’s toughest challenges.

This verse is the principle on which we built our Kinship Project Model. Our Kinship Projects are churches first with room for orphans and widows to live together. Widows act as caregivers for the orphans, and they learn to heal together in their new safe haven.

One of those Kinship Projects is the Home of Love in India. Caring for 25 children, Home of Love serves a community struggling with increased child labor, a lack of food, shelter, and proper care and love.

Thanks to your support, Pabitra is able to call the Home of Love his own home.

A smiling young man in IndiaPabitra didn’t have an easy start to life. After his father passed away when he was only two, his mother took on the full responsibility for their family. She worked night and day to cover their expenses. Extreme labor exhausted her, and she fell ill.

After his mother passed away, Pabitra stayed with his brother-in-law, who also struggled with poverty.

Even though he was only a child, Pabitra still tried to help bring in money through begging or working in hotels washing dishes. Slowly he began to fall under bad influences.

Pabitra’s future seemed bleak. Until a pastor in the community introduced him to the Home of Love.

It took time and patience, but thanks to the love and care he received at the Kinship Project, Pabitra was able to turn his life around.

The nine-year-old is now one of the home’s most well behaved children, studying well and at the top of his class. He also leads prayer and sings in his choir at Sunday school and during service.

Your support also changes the lives of the widows who care for children like Pabitra.

Widows like Gita.

A solemn-looking widow in IndiaGita had no stable place to call “home” after the death of her husband. She was also pregnant. After experiencing strain and turmoil staying with her father-in-law and then with her brother, she began to lose hope.

Gita eventually found her way to the Home of Love where she shared her heartbreaking story.

Now Gita is happy, safe, and comfortable serving as a loving caregiver to the children who live at Home of Love.

Without your support of our Kinship Projects, the orphans and widows who call them “home” would have nowhere to go. Your gifts literally save their lives.

Helping orphans and widows is about more than just giving money or goods – it's about showing compassion and understanding to those facing difficult times. When we support the vulnerable in our society, we not only ease their suffering but also create a more caring and inclusive community where everyone feels valued and supported.

So, let’s come together to embody the spirit of true religion, embracing the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
