Meet Mary from Geta Kinship
What were you doing on August 9th, 2014? That day may not be significant to you, but for Mary Atieno, it was the beginning of a new life. It was the day she arrived “home” at Geta Kinship. Mary is an eight-year-old girl with a lot of spirit. She is always happy and eager to welcome people into her home. But things weren’t always that way. When Mary was only four-years-old, her mother passed away from H.I.V. Mary is also H.I.V. positive, which meant that no one wanted to take care of her after her mother died. Love Beyond Measure
Being a single parent isn’t easy. In fact it might be one of the most difficult “jobs” a person could have. But imagine being a single mother in a country where women have few opportunities, and you have no connections to help you. This is the situation many girls from the Namanjalala Community in Kenya have found themselves in. These young mothers face a lot of rejection, humiliation, and disappointment from their families and society. But thanks to God and the launch of a young single mother’s ministry at Ephraim Kinship Project the girls are seeing love beyond measure. The Community
International Widows Day
Today is International Widows day. We celebrate the amazing women who work in our Kinships every day, but today we would love to tell you about one of our newest Caregivers: Gladys Munubi Gladys Munubi is a widow and a mother of two children. She is also one of the Caregivers of Geta Kinship. Gladys started working at Geta Kinship in 2014 after learning about how the children in the home needed another caregiver and especially a mother figure. Giving Hope to Refugees
“Everything that is done in the world is done by Hope.” -Martin Luther Thousands of refugees from Myanmar have moved into 9 different refugee camps located along the western border of Thailand. Myanmar civil wars over the years lead the people to travel down to Thailand after their villages had been destroyed by the Myanmar army. Continued violence in Myanmar makes it impossible for the refugees to travel back home, so the refugee camps have become a permanent home for them. Kinship in Action
Kinship means surviving together, helping each other, and working with one another to solve a problem. The people in our Kinship Projects have taken this philosophy to heart and are living it out every day. One Kinship Project that is working to solve a problem in their community is the Manasseh Kinship Project. Along with providing a home for orphans, the Manasseh Kinship Project focuses on ministering to women and children from the Pokot tribe. The Pokot tribe believes that women are only good for child bearing and shouldn’t be involved in meaningful discussions or community engagements. These beliefs have Kinship, Restoration
