Reading Patrick’s file only tells you a fraction of his life story.
At 9 years old, Patrick lost his father to tuberculosis and HIV. His mother did not return from South Sudan alive. His grandmother could barely hold herself up, let alone a boy. No siblings. No safety net. Soon after that, no grandmother.
That’s the story his file tells. It’s true, but it’s also the least interesting thing about him.
When you get to know Patrick, who now calls the Jezza Kinship Family home, you learn everything his file leaves out.
Give Patrick a lump of clay and he lights up. Again and again, he turns shapeless clay into anything he dreams it could be.
Everyone who reads his story looks down at the ground where he came from. But Patrick is literally looking up! He wants to be a pilot. Of all the things a little boy could want to become, he dreams of leaving the ground entirely.
In-country leader Eddie wrote: “I opened a door, and God did the rest, as He always does. It is the Lord who carries a child across a border and sets him in a Kinship Family […] The Lord takes what a grave should have swallowed and lets it grow up instead.”
Thank you for restoring childhoods, getting to know Kinship Kids like Patrick, and giving him and orphans like him the chance to dream and grow up.
