“I’m Cathy, a nurse and proud alumna of Kinship United. Every year, I take part in the medical outreach organized by the Kireka Kinship Project, and this year’s event reminded me just how much of a difference we can make when we come together.
The day was buzzing with activity. Over 500 people lined up, seeking medical care and a bit of hope. It felt overwhelming at times, but with the help of my fellow alumni and volunteers, we managed to keep things moving.
The people we saw—widows like Jane, orphaned kids like Sarah—had been waiting a long time for this kind of help.
One of the moments that sticks with me is meeting Jane, a widow with two young children. She had been struggling to afford the medication she needed. When we handed her the medicine, she broke down in tears, not just out of relief but because someone cared enough to help. We held hands, said a prayer, and I could see that spark of hope reignite in her eyes.
Then there was Sarah, a seven-year-old orphan who had never been to a doctor before. Her excitement was infectious. After her first check-up and treatment, she smiled so wide it felt like she lit up the whole room. That smile is something I’ll never forget.
These small moments remind me why I became a nurse—to help those who need it most and to show them they’re not alone.
None of this would’ve been possible without Kinship United. They provided the resources, from medicine to funds, allowing us to offer both physical and spiritual care. We shared the gospel with patients, prayed with them, and reminded them they matter.
As I look back on those two days, I realize the impact goes beyond the 500 patients we treated. It was about restoring dignity, offering hope, and showing people they are cared for. It’s an experience that will stay with me forever.
I’m grateful to Kinship United for making this possible. Together, we’re truly making a difference—one patient, one story, at a time."
