For Ruth, sleeping on a bed of grass-filled sacks laid out on a hard floor was routine.
But that was before she joined the Cross Training Center in Uganda.
Ruth's Story
At the age of 16, Ruth embarked on a temporary stay at the Kinship Home, awaiting the day her family would be prepared for a reunion.
But she never realized her experience would leave a lasting mark on her heart with one memory in particular standing out amongst the rest.
“I was given a gift that would change the course of my experience at the Kinship Home – a brand new bed. As I laid eyes on it for the first time, my heart was so happy and filled with an overwhelming sense of joy,” Ruth said. “A bed to me was something I never thought of, its soft mattress and clean bed sheets. Sleeping on it was so comfortable and good, I had never known.”
More than a Bed
A bed is one of the first things new children receive when they join a Kinship Project. To an orphan, a bed is more than just a frame, a mattress, and some pillows.
It becomes their safe space, a place to feel rested and protected. A place to dream. A bed is a symbol to each child that they’re loved.
“It was as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders, and for the first time in what felt like an eternity, I felt truly at ease and cared for,” Ruth said.
That’s the impact you have on children around the world. Your support enables Kinship Projects to provide essentials, like beds, clothing, and food, for children who are used to having nothing. And the children never forget these generous experiences.
Ruth said, “I always remember that even the little deeds of kindness can have a profound impact on someone's life.”
In this haven, safe and sound,
Peaceful slumber is always found.
Cushioned deep from life's harsh test,
What am I? Your nightly nest.
Will you please contribute to provide beds and bedding to other children like Ruth?
