Amazing Grace Kinship Struggles Without Sponsor
A village in Kenya is struggling with an insurmountable problem: orphans. Children that have either been abandoned or have lost their parents from war or disease have been left on the streets to fend for themselves. Struggling to survive themselves, these people lack the resources to care for these children.
You can help this village and equip the local pastor by providing a safe home in their local church. This will rescue these children and give them the love, care, and support that they need to begin their healing process.
Taking care of these kids is a three-phase process. The first step is relief: to rescue children from the emergency situation; taking them from a refugee camp or a disaster area, for example. They are given a health check-up and receive treatment for parasites and lice. The children with HIV are given the appropriate treatment if it is available. Each child takes a bath, the first many have had in months, and is given new clothes. This step, as small as it may seem, is crucial to restoring their dignity and self-worth.
Second, we begin the healing and restoration process. The children need to see, day in and day out, that the safety and security of a warm blanket – the necessities they have been lacking, such as food, clothing, and shelter – are now permanent. Their life until their rescue was full of such uncertainty and disappointment that this stage takes time but the immense love of their caregivers eases the transition, as each child learns how to trust again and that there is a God who loves them.
Third, they receive ongoing care and rehabilitation. The indigenous church acts as the primary support system for the orphan home. The real impact comes after the children grow up and build lives of their own. A child never ages out of a Kinship; they can stay as long as they need to as they finish schooling and acquire the skills to provide for themselves. They are raised to be disciples of Christ and leaders in their generation. Many of the children who were first rescued 18 years ago are now leading ministries of their own or pouring back into the Kinships where they were raised!
