Picture it: the sun is shining and you decide to leave your shoes inside and walk around your backyard barefoot this summer. You feel the soft grass under your feet and between your toes. It even tickles a bit!
It’s total bliss until you feel a sharp pain shoot through the bottom of your foot. You’ve stepped on a thorn! Annoyed, you pull out the thorn and clean off the area. The irritation goes away after a few minutes. But what if the pain didn’t go away? And you had it every time you took a step.
That feeling is all too familiar for little eleven-year-old Jecinta. When she first joined the Aruba Kinship Project family, Jecinta lived with unbelievable pain in her feet on a daily basis. Walking was difficult for the small girl. And wearing shoes was out of the question. Could you imagine?
There are suffering children like Jecinta who need treatment right away. You can give it to them by contributing today.
Jecinta was the latest victim of a monster so tiny it looks like a small black fleck on your skin when it first attacks. That is, until it grows.
Jecinta’s feet were infested with parasitic fleas called “jiggers.” They’d burrowed into the soft skin on the bottoms of her feet and dug their way underneath her toenails. They’d even gotten into her hands. If the infestation became too bad and infection set in, she could’ve needed to amputate.
Doesn’t this just make your skin crawl? By giving today, you can help children being preyed upon by jiggers. You can make their pain finally go away, and save them from infection.
One night, the irritation in Jecinta’s feet grew so unbearable that she couldn’t stop crying and itching herself. The next day, a member of our Kenyan field team rushed to Aruba to help Jecinta. Because of generous donors like you, she had the tools necessary to cut the jiggers out of Jecinta’s feet and the medicine to treat her.
Yes, I said “cut.” Imagine your young child having to sit through such a procedure! It would be too much.
That’s why we need to stop jiggers. We need to stop the pain and the tears. You have the power to help right now!
Thank you for caring about children like Jecinta. They couldn’t heal without you. Please, contribute now to make sure no other child has to suffer from jiggers like she did.
